Amstep Steps - An Extra Measure of Performance

Amsteps were developed to withstand the high traffic experienced by stairways in mass transit facilities. In these conditions of extreme volume and severe impact, Amstep treads exhibit remarkable durability and resist cracking and peeling while maintaining a safe, non-slip surface for years.
The walking area consists of a special non-slip formulation, bonded to a heavy duty aluminum base. Because it is non-porous, this surface resists dirt, liquids and common contaminant's. It can be maintained with routine cleaning procedures.

For New Stairs
Ideally suited for emergency egress and fire exit staircases in schools, universities, hospitals, public buildings, office centers, shopping plazas, etc.

For New Stairs
They're ideal for medium to heavy pedestrian use with poured or precast concrete, terrazzo, steel pan cement-filled or wood stairs.

For Renovating Stairs
Ideal for applications where metal nosings were not specified during construction, or where adhesive stair treads have begun to peel or crack.

Amstep500 01Amstep 500 Series Renovation Stair Treads are an affordable way to renovate and modernize worn stairways without the cost of tearing out and rebuilding or disrupting stair traffic. Amstep renovation treads provide long-lasting, anti-slip protection and a beautiful appearance. The easy to install renovation treads are engineered and built to outlast ordinary treads by many years.

Amstep 500 Series Renovation Stair Treads are manufactured of high quality, heavy duty extruded aluminum configured to house our exclusive safety traction surface of special abrasive non-slip particles. These particles are bonded and locked into the aluminum base to make Amstep 500 series more durable than concrete, stone or marble.

Amstep500 02Amstep 500 Series Renovation Stair Treads are easily installed over existing worn stairways of every type, including marble, concrete, wood, steel and terrazzo. They are ideally suited for both indoor and outdoor use in schools, public buildings, hospitals and industry.

Choice of colors


The abrasive material bonded to the heavy-duty aluminum base of the 500 Series is offered in your choice of eight attractive colors. These colors can blend with any decor, for improved esthetics. The color pigment is incorporated into the abrasive material itself, so the color will never fade or peel.

Specify Amstep Treads

Renovation Treads shall be non-slip Amstep Series. The tread base shall be extruded aluminum alloy 6063-T6, heat treated for high strength. The abrasive filler material is a blend of carborundum and aluminum oxide bonded and locked into the channels provided in the extruded aluminum tread base. Treads shall be 9/32" thick and lip shall be 1 1/8" from underside.

Treads will have a coefficient of friction 1.02 dry, 0.98 wet per ASTM F609-79. Treads will be furnished with drilled and countersunk holes.

Renovation Treads are high impact and non-slip. Manufactured in the US by Amstep Products. Treads are capable of withstanding severe impact and meet ASTM-D2444 without cracking or delaminating, meet Federal Standard 141 and be capable of immersion in a saline water, oil, fuels and detergents without softening, afford a non-slip walking surface to meet ASTM-F609 with a dry coefficient of friction of 1.04 dry, and 1.00 wet.

Treads consist of a high performance polymer based slip resistant formulation containing not less than 45% virgin grain aluminum oxide granules and resin content of not less than 19% by weight. The formulation is cast and cured upon a base of extruded aluminum alloy 6063-T5: minimum thickness of extruded base shall be .125 inch thick.

Treads offer a continuous non-slip walking surface, uninterrupted by exposed ribs other than a single .125 inch demarcation line for optional colors, matching or contrasting, to assist the visually impaired.

The front lip shall extend 1 1/4" from the underside. The back edge shall be beveled. Overall thickness of the tread shall be 5/16" minimum.

The manufacturer shall submit certified data of tests performed by an independent laboratory indicating that treads meet or exceed: ASTM D2444, ASTM F609, Fed.5td. 141, ASTM D968, Fed. Std. 501A, and MIL-D-3135G
